Energy Policy Act of 2005

Claim a Federal Tax Credit for up to $500 on your 2006 or 2007 return.

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 allows consumers to receive a federal tax credit for making energy efficient improvements on their home, including installing Energy Star qualified windows and doors.

Replace existing windows and doors with qualifying products between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2007. See Manufacturer’s Certification Statement for qualifying products.

Claim tax credit in the year of your purchase and installation.

Tax credit is for product only, not installation.

Tax credit is for 10% of purchase of windows/skylights up to $200.

Tax credit is for 10% of purchase of doors up to $500, if windows/skylights are not used.

Tax credit total can not exceed $500 for all home improvement projects combined during the two year period of the tax credit. Projects include: windows, doors, roofing, insulation, heating and cooling equipment.

The taxpayer should retain their purchase receipt, and the Energy Star labels from their windows, OR the Manufacturers Certification Statement as part of their tax records. As in all tax matters, the taxpayer is advised to consult their tax professional for assistance.
